In English 1010
we had to write a paper about a community problem that is or was happening in
our communities in which we have come from.
The problem I wrote about involved a community newsletter called the
Dubois Round Up. The reason I wrote
about this topic is because it is a topic that I am very close to. My mom and grandmother were in charge of the
Dubois Round Up, when some individuals were getting in the way. Well, I was sick and tired of keeping my
thoughts inside, so I wrote a paper on it.
It was a really hard paper for me to write, but I still work on it all
the time.
The main topic
that our topics had to be under was “Posing a Question.” This topic is what made my paper really
difficult for me to write. You see,
because I am so close to the topic, it was hard for me to keep opinion out of
my paper. It was a real challenge. I
had to learn to put my thoughts in the paper without being biased towards my
grandmother’s side. When it came to
writing the opposing side I had to think quite a bit about why the President of
the Ladies Auxiliary would hurt my grandmother in that way. I know the reason why, because she greedy,
but I couldn’t just write that in my paper.
My first
challenge I had to over come was my biased opinion. I had to take out words and phrases like “I,” “determination to
gain power,” “jealously,” and greed.”
After I worked
on this problem, ‘til I got sick of it, I started working on my
organization. My paper at the beginning
was really disorganized; actually any paper I write tends to be disorganized,
but I have worked really hard in over coming these little obstacles.
To help me with
these obstacles have gone to the Writing Center numerous times for help, and as
well I have met with Kelly. Doing these
things have really help me become a better writer. As I am now writing my final, I have developed a system so that I
am a little more organized with writing my papers. The system I am using is an outline. With writing an outline first I am now more organized and it
helps me keep my mind on one topic at a time instead of wondering all over the
place.
The papers that
are on the sites below are my first draft of my community problem and my final
draft. I have worked on this paper
throughout the whole semester to make is accurate and clean as possible.
