On March 22, 2002 we (Ty and Esther) set off for our second spring break trip to Cali. What an adventure filled with frustrated drivers and black diving monsters emerging from the ocean. First we spent a fun filled day on Catalina Island. Ty diving amoungst the ocean wildlife while I enjoyed the California sun. Then we traveled up the coast to Santa Barbara and stayed at Refugio State Beach campground. Our campsite was 100 yards from a beautiful sandy beach. This was one of the highlights of the entire trip. The day spent yelling at each other while driving in the crazy California traffic, and the night spent drinking champagne on the beach in coffee mugs while sitting in our camp chairs!
Leaving Refugio was last thing Ty and I wanted to do.........other than the train barreling through the campground in the middle of the night it was the best place we had stayed. Ty enjoyed diving in the kelp beds located right off the beach while I watched and worried from afar back on land. Before we departed Ty went diving one more time with some guys that he meet the day before. This was the best day for diving yet.......the water was much clearer than it had been in the entire time there. But the time came and we departed from Refugio.
On our way up the coast we stopped in a little town called Solveng, which was a little danish town near Santa Barbara. There we went to Kalyra winery and experienced wine tasting....wine is not exactly my favorite beverage! We pressed on to reach our destination, which was Big Sur Campground located in the Big Sur National Forest near Monterey. This was when we realized that our trip was soon coming to an end, and we would have to return to Laramie and the obligations of school. Here are some pictures of our trip...Hope you enjoy!!
